By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent CITY hall is working to relocate nearly half of the city’s informal settlers within the next five years, the overseer of the City Housing and Urban Development Department  said yesterday. Ermin Pimentel said the plan is to move some 15 thousand of the over 34 thousand  families living in informal settlements in the city to relocation sites between now and 2022. Since 2013, he said, city hall has been listing informal settlers living under bridges, near esteros, bodies of water,  ravines, and within industrial and dangerous zones. Aside from embarking on a massive acquisition of relocation sites, Pimentel said, city hall is also organizing informal settlers and profiling them in order to set up an effective system in the City Housing and Urban Development Department. “Niadto pa man December last year na-approve sa city council ang ordinance nga nag-create sa Department   of  City Housing and Urban Development sa city hall. Mao na nga wala pa gyoy atong proper system kay  wala pa gani na-appoint nga department head,” he said. Despite the absence of a system, city hall, through the department, is preparing 722 housing  units at a relocation site in Sitio Parehon in Barangay Lumbia, he said. The 10-hectare Lumbia property cost city hall P26 million. The construction materials for the relocation site were donated by the Japanese government for survivors of the 2011 typhoon “Sendong” devastation in the city.
