THE capitol yesterday said the evacuees from Lagonglong town, Misamis Oriental who camped out at the Vicente de Lara Park here may return to their village today. The announcement came after a fact-finding mission declared that it was already safe for the 180 evacuees from 37 families to go back to Sitio Mincamansi, Barangay Banglay in Lagonglong. The evacuees planned to leave the capitol grounds this morning. Their leader,  Reynaldo Ayuma, said his group was thankful for the assurance given them by the fact-finding team during a dialogue at the capitol yesterday afternoon. It was attended by capitol officials led by provincial administrator Jocelyn Mateo, 58th Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Francis Carandang, Lagonglong Mayor Jay Albert Puertas, and lawyer Czarina Musni of the Higaonon Network. Musni said the fact-finding team found no military presence in Mincamansi on Saturday. But she said it was clear that soldiers and New People’s Army clashed there recently. The capitol plans to bring the evacuees up to Kibanban in Balingasag which is near Mincamansi. The fact-finding team concluded its investigation in Mincamansi over the weekend. The team arrived at the capitol late Saturday afternoon, according to Fernando Vincent Dy, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk-Reduction Management Office  that was tasked to lead the mission. Dy said the team reported directly to Lagonglong Mayor Puertas after the fact-finding work. He said the team found it safe for the the 180 evacuees from 37 families at the capitol grounds to return to their village. The 37 families that fled the Lagonglong  village are among the 91 families registered as residents of Mincamansi. But Dy said the team also found out that of the 91 families, only 52 families  actually live there. The rest are actually living in neighboring Kibanban in Balingasag. (nitz arancon)
