CAMIGUIN — A total of 6,567 beneficiaries in Camiguin received 10 kilos of rice each under the second tranche of the national Bawat Bayan Makikinabang (BBM) Rice Distribution Program.
The distributions covered Guinsiliban, Mahinog and Catarman, with local government officials and Rep. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo leading the turnouts.
Guinsiliban had 1,667 beneficiaries, while 2,381 received rice in Mahinog and 2,519 in Catarman.
That means a total of 65,670 kilos of rice was distributed to the 6,567 beneficiaries in the three municipalities during the second tranche.
Officials said the assistance is intended to help vulnerable families meet their basic food needs.
Catarman adds local rice subsidy
Catarman is also rolling out a separate rice subsidy using ₱5 million from its Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).
Mayor Kiterio Antonio Palarca said 1,666 vulnerable households will receive 10 kilos of rice every two months under the local program.
The municipality has allocated 100,000 kilos of rice for six distribution cycles from June 2026 to March 2027.
The local subsidy is separate from the national BBM rice distribution, giving qualified Catarman households another source of rice assistance.
Government officials said the national and local programs are aimed at providing food relief to families facing financial difficulties. (With a report from Recthie T. Paculba of PIA-10)
