CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Twelve-year-old chess player Kyle Windylle C. Espares is selling quail eggs to raise funds for his upcoming participation in the 7th ASEAN+ Individual Chess Championships.

Without financial backing from local government units, the Geronima Cabrera National High School student turned to selling quail eggs to cover registration, travel, and accommodation expenses.

Quail Eggs

Espares sells quail eggs sourced from his grandparents' farm in Panuloon, Sapad, Lanao del Norte, at ₱42 per dozen.

"I’m selling quail eggs to help fund my chess training and tournament expenses," Espares said. "Every purchase, big or small, brings me one step closer to achieving my goals."

Regional Record

Espares, an Arena FIDE Master who has played chess for three years, is a two-time regional player and a 2026 Palarong Pambansa qualifier for Region 10.

He is scheduled to compete in the Under-12 Standard category during the international competition.
