POLICE yesterday said stricter restrictions on social distancing would be enforced, and people ignoring it would be slapped charges based on existing local laws.

City police spokesman Maj. Evan Viñas said that since the city is under community quarantine, people ignoring rules could end up in court.

Viñas said this after the distribution of barangay exit passes which he said people should take seriously.

“People breaking social distancing guidelines will be charged, and they are facing possible jail time,” said Viñas.

He said ignoring the quarantine guidelines like the Republic Act 11469 or the “Bayanihan to Heal As One Act” has corresponding fines of P10,000 to P1 million, and/or a prison sentence of up to one year.

“We urge the people in the city, mostly in markets across the city, to follow physical distancing guidelines,” said Viñas. “Let this be a warning to all, and do not challenge the government because you will lose.” (Ben Balce)
