WITH his visit to the Army's 103rd Infantry Brigade for their 125th founding anniversary, Philippine Army commanding general Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. has laid his command thrust and tasks for soldiers to take as they discharge their duties and responsibilities.
“When I took over as a commanding general of the Philippine Army, I gave a command thrust and tasks. This is captioned in the acronym SERVE,” he said in his message.
SERVE stands for soldier, enhancement, resources, victory, and elections, according to Brawner.
With the “S” representing the soldier, the army chief conveyed his belief that soldiers are the most important asset in the Philippine Army, thus, the necessity to nurture them and their families which is then manifested in their newly-launched physical and mental health awareness program to cover the overall well-being of the soldiers.
The second thrust, enhancement, goes for the intensification of individual combat skills of the soldiers including the unit competencies through various relevant training in accordance with their line of work.
Further, the resources are seen as the third thrust which entails the instruction to download and push the resources of the Philippine Army down to the units on the ground, noting that these deliver the successes of the Philippine Army which then contribute to the overall mission of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
Fourth is victory which implies against all threats to national security.
As such, Brawner lauded the recent triumph of the 103rd Infantry Brigade with their successful overrunning of a Dawlah Islamiyah camp in Maguing town.
He added that apart from this record, he gets to read every day several instances of encounters of opponents, surrendering of captured enemies and firearms which are all deemed to be the products of the effort of all the army units nationwide.
Meanwhile, the last thrust is elections which are timely for this year’s approaching national elections.
Brawner stressed that wherever he goes, he reminds his troops that they only have two tasks to perform during elections which are to exercise their right to vote and ensure that the elections are orderly and peaceful with the contribution to the accuracy, honesty, and credibility of them.
Above anything else, the commanding general appealed for continuous collaboration between the Philippine Army and the various sectors of the society considering that it is through this that lasting peace will prevail.
“We will not be able to function successfully and accomplish all the scores that we had if we will not be able to cooperate with other sectors in the society,” Brawner said adding, “We cannot make it if it would only be us, the soldiers of the Philippine Army or the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
