THE Provincial Youth Leadership Summit (PYLS) 2023 held its third leg at the 10th Regional Community Defense Group (10RCDG) Headquarters in Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City.
The highlight of the event was the prominent collaboration between the 4th Infantry Division and the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) of Misamis Oriental.
The summit, aimed at empowering the youth as future leaders, was lauded by Misamis Oriental Governor Peter S. Unabia, as an effective avenue for enhancing the cognitive capacity and confidence of the youth in their respective communities.
Unabia, as the Keynote Speaker during the closing ceremony, emphasized the crucial role played by the collaboration between the 4ID and PLGU MisOr.

He commended their efforts in molding the youth to become responsible and well-informed individuals, setting a benchmark for youth empowerment.
A total of 100 young participants from the municipalities of Lagonglong and Villanueva in Misamis Oriental took part in the summit, which was facilitated by the LGU - Misamis Oriental through the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO) and the Propelling Our Inherited Nation Through Youth Inc. (POINTY), with the support of the 4ID troops.
The summit encompassed a range of activities, including interactive lectures, workshops, team-building exercises, and awareness campaigns against deceptive recruitment by the communist group.
The participants were exposed to various topics and skills, such as Basic Life Support, Teenage Pregnancy, Mental Health Awareness, Drug Prevention, Leadership Principles, Skills and Development Training, and Social Media Policies.
The three-day event aimed to empower the youth and equip them with the necessary knowledge to become future leaders of the country.
During the closing ceremony, Col. Leo E. Bongosia, representing Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, the 4ID Commander, emphasized the goal of the summit to transform the youth into catalysts of change.
He expressed the clear objective of shielding the youth from extremist ideologies, fostering patriotism and volunteerism in their hearts, and igniting the flames of youth leadership for a brighter future.
Bongosia also encouraged the participants to contribute to the political and social development of the country by actively engaging in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in October 2023.
It is worth noting that the previous legs of the PYLS also saw the active participation of youth from different municipalities in Misamis Oriental, showcasing the commitment of the province to nurturing the potential of its young leaders.
