AUTHORITIES arrested an alleged gun-toting extortionist after the leader of the city’s premier business group complained about how the suspect allegedly intimidated fish traders near the Bulua terminal on New Year’s Day.

City police director Col. Henry Dampal identified the arrested suspect as 35-year-old Glenn Calang of Aquiles Street, Sitio Capisnon in Barangay Kauswagan, this city.
Law enforcers from the Bulua and Baungon town, Bukidnon police stations led by Maj. Aldren Estrada arrested Calang in a house in Barangay Danatag, Baungon in Bukidnon on Friday afternoon.
Police said Calang has just been released from the city jail in Lumbia, and the suspect has been in and out of prison for various cases.
Authorities brought him to this city from Baungon and detained him at the Maharlika police headquarters in Barangay Carmen.
A case for robbery-extortion is being prepared against him.
Police arrested Calang after the complaints of fish traders were brought to their attention by Irene Floro, the president of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc..
Floro said an armed Calang intimidated people into giving him money at the fish-landing area in Bulua in the morning of Jan. 1.
“Nakakuha gyud siya’g kwarta mukabat og P700 ug nani-on pag-pusil adtong di muhatag. Nahibaw-an pud namo sige na diay to siya pangayo diri ug sa Puerto market,” Floro said.
Dampal said Calang victimized a 19-year-old fruit dealer from Agusan in the area the following evening -- he was allegedly able to force the dealer to give him P800.
