MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano yesterday ordered a prohibition on the entry of hogs, pork products and frozen boar semen from the Davao region and Luzon due to African Swine Fever threat.
This came after the government of Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental, confirmed that over 1,000 hogs died due to ASF in several barangays of the province. The incident was also confirmed by Agriculture Secretary William Dar.
Emano signed Executive Order no. 002-2020 expanding the Misamis Oriental-wide ban from Luzon to the Davao region as a protective measure.
Pork products like canned meat loaf, sausages, corned pork, mechado, pork tocino, longganisa, chicharon, hams, hotdogs, and chorizo, among others, are covered by Emano’s ban.
The capitol also stepped up quarantine measures throughout the province, including spraying of vehicles with disinfectant.
Emano said the ban would be lifted after the Bureau of Animal Industry declares Luzon and Region 11 ASF-free.
