GINGOOG CITY — Gingoog residents are being urged to limit exposure to haze reportedly affecting parts of the city as authorities warn that poor air quality may pose health risks, especially to people sensitive to air pollution.

Mayor Erick G. Cañosa issued the warning through his official Facebook page, urging residents to stay alert and take precautions while haze conditions persist.

Haze occurs when smoke, dust and fine particles accumulate in the atmosphere, reducing visibility and potentially affecting air quality.

Reports have linked the haze to smoke from wildfires in Kalimantan, Indonesia, with prevailing winds potentially carrying smoke and particulate matter across parts of Southeast Asia. However, the specific source of the haze affecting Gingoog should be confirmed through official air-quality and weather advisories.

Residents urged to limit exposure

People exposed to haze may experience eye, nose and throat irritation, coughing, headaches, dizziness and breathing difficulties. Those with existing respiratory problems may be more vulnerable to worsening symptoms.

Cañosa advised residents to wear face masks when going outdoors, avoid prolonged exposure, stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activities while haze conditions continue.

Keeping windows and doors closed when haze levels are high may also help reduce indoor exposure.

Residents who experience severe difficulty breathing, chest pain or worsening symptoms are advised to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility.

The mayor also urged residents to monitor official advisories and remain vigilant as authorities continue to assess conditions affecting the city.
