The firm was subcontracted by Czarles Construction Co. that bagged the P37-million bridge rehabilitation project awarded by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Joel Gabatan, president of the National Confederation of Transport Union in northern Mindanao, said public jeepney owners and drivers have no complaint, adding that they understand why the bridge has to be closed to vehicular traffic.
“Mintras tanto nga gi-trabaho pa, natural apiktado gyud ang traffic,” Gabatan said.
RTA operations chief Nonito Oclarit said the Ysalina Bridge would remain closed to traffic until July 16.
Oclarit said the bridge project affected the vehicular traffic flow on Vamenta Boulevard and the Carmen market area, Liceo de Cagayan University all the way to Kauswagan.
He said moderate vehicular traffic was also observed on the road to Patag, the JR Borja Bridge, Divisoria, Kagay-an Bridge, Mastersons Ave. up to Rodelsa Circle.
The RTA has implemented a rerouting scheme affecting public jeepneys coming and headed to Iponan, Bulua, Patag, Bayabas, Bonbon, amd Kauswagan.
The regular route of public jeepneys coming and headed to Xavier Heights, Balulang and Canito-an, among others, were also affected.
“Dili lang mabalaka ang mga driver ug mga pasahero kay temporary ra man pud ni nga traffic rerouting. Mobalik ang normal nga rota after mahuman sa DPWH ang pagehab sa Ysalina Bridge,” said Oclarit.
