AN incumbent barangay councilor of one of the urban barangays in Cagayan de Oro City was killed when his uncle hacked him several times after he barged into the latter’s residence in Bukidnon yesterday at 1:20 pm.

Police Lt. Edward Agpalza, Valencia City Police Station head, identified the victim as Ruben Escultor Boliboli, 45, married, and presently residing at Purok 4-A, San Roque, Barangay Lumbo of the said city.

He succumbed to multiple hacked wounds on his head and both arms that resulted in his instantaneous death.

Meanwhile, here in the city, Barangay Consolacion is flying its flag at half-mast today in remembrance of one of its councilors. Boliboli was the chairman of the committee on peace and order in the barangay.

While the suspect was also identified as Limuel Pestin, 46, married, laborer, and residing at Purok 8, Pacangan of the same barangay.

In an initial investigation, it was learned that the killing stemmed from a conflict over a parcel of land located in the same barangay.

In an interview with Pestin, he told police that he was resting in his house when suddenly a man wearing a black bonnet and a native bully hat, purposely to cover his identity, barged into his residence through the kitchen door and without a word shot him twice.

The suspect sustained minor gunshot wounds to his finger and lower abdomen.

“Bisan samaran nako ako gihapon nalayug ang maong tawo hangtud nabuy-an niya ang iyang gidalang pusil. Mao tong nakahigayon ko’g kuha og sundang ug gitigbas nako siya,” Pestin told police.

The suspect said he only knew the identity of his assailant after the hacking incident.

Both the victim and the suspect were brought to separate hospitals by the responding rescue personnel.

Pestin was brought to Malaybalay City Provincial Hospital and is now in stable condition.

While Bolilboli was rushed to Laviña Hospital in Valencia City only to be declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.

Responding authorities were able to seize a .38 caliber revolver used by the victim with two fired cartridge cases and four live ammunition of the same caliber.

Also found in the area were a jungle bolo, a black bonnet, and a native bully hat.

Boliboli is presently lying at Villanueva Funeral Homes in Valencia City. While Pestin is already declared outpatient but is still in temporary detention at the custodial facility of Valencia police for proper disposition.
