REGIONAL Peace and Order Council (RPOC)-10 of Northern Mindanao convened with 34 members to discuss important updates aimed at fortifying peace and stability across the region.
The agenda covered a wide range of topics, including anti-criminality efforts, anti-insurgency measures, preventing violent extremism, public safety, and the audit results of the 2022 Peace and Order Council.
The City of Iligan played host to this cooperative gathering, where cooperative initiatives were discussed to enhance peace and security in the area.
Mayor Frederick Siao expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the RPOC members for their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the region's citizens.
He emphasized the significance of regional cooperation in addressing the challenges that the world faces today.
Despite the recent bombing incident at the Mindanao State University-Main Campus in Marawi City, RPOC Chairperson and Camiguin Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo decided to proceed with the meeting, demonstrating the government's unwavering commitment to continue working amidst such incidents.
This decision aimed to showcase resilience and the government's determination to promote peace, protect constituents, and not yield to threats.
During the council meeting, the Police Regional Office-10 presented a comprehensive report on their actions between April and November 2023.
Their initiatives included conducting 340 operations against illegal gambling, arresting 714 individuals, and confiscating items worth P195,901.
They also made significant progress in apprehending wanted persons, addressing the issue of loose firearms, and conducting anti-criminality law enforcement operations.
In addition to the police efforts, the collaborative endeavors between the 4th Infantry Division (ID), 1st ID, and 10th ID of the Philippine Army were highlighted in the accomplishment report.
These efforts focused on preventing the recruitment of communist terrorists and local terrorist groups, preventing violent extremism, dismantling enemy political structures, destroying enemy capabilities, and delegitimizing enemy narratives.
Enhancing public safety was another crucial aspect discussed during the meeting.
The Bureau of Fire Protection conducted numerous fire safety inspections and responded to emergencies, demonstrating their commitment to protecting the community.
The Land Transportation Office also played its part by apprehending individuals who violated road safety laws such as the Motorcycle Helmet Act and the Seat Belt Use Act.
The Office of Civil Defense contributed to public safety by accrediting community disaster volunteers and organizing training sessions for public service continuity planning and incident command systems.
Additionally, the Department of the Interior and Local Government conducted operations to clear barangay roads and provided substantial assistance to former rebels (FRs) to facilitate their reintegration into society.
Through these collective efforts, Northern Mindanao exemplifies its unwavering commitment to fortifying peace, enforcing security, and ensuring public safety.
