CAMIGUIN — Camiguin Polytechnic State College (CPSC) shifted all classes to online learning on Tuesday, October 13, as police cybercrime investigators looked into a threatening social media post directed at the college community.
The threat reportedly appeared in an unverified Facebook post from an account believed to be a dummy account. The post allegedly expressed frustration over strict teachers and low grades at the state college.
However, the claims in the post have not been independently verified, and authorities have yet to identify the person behind the account.
The Camiguin Police Provincial Office said the incident had been coordinated with cybercrime investigators for further investigation and appropriate action.
CPSC said it immediately coordinated with local law enforcement authorities after learning of the threat and formally requested police personnel to be deployed to both campuses.
The college said it takes all threats to the safety of its academic community seriously, whether intended as a joke, an expression of frustration, or a genuine threat.
As a precaution, all classes across CPSC campuses were moved online for October 13.
The college also maintained existing security measures, including requiring valid identification cards, checking gate passes for authorized visitors, and restricting unauthorized individuals from entering campus premises.
Campus security personnel were directed to strictly enforce these measures and remain vigilant following the incident.
Both the college and police urged students, parents, personnel, and the public to remain calm and avoid sharing the threatening post or other unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear.
CPSC also encouraged the public to report suspicious activities or information related to the incident to campus security or the proper authorities.
Police urged anyone with information that could help identify the account holder to coordinate with the nearest police station.
Authorities have yet to publicly identify the person behind the account or disclose further details about the investigation.
