A POLICE group specializing on cases of cybercrime have started examining the uploaded video of two coast guards and a barangay chairman who were seized by suspected Abu Sayyaf members at Aliguay Island off Dapitan City in May. Supt. Divin Hamo Ceriales, Dapitan police director, said the Zamboanga del Norte police’s cybercrime unit was trying to identify the first person to upload the video that has gone viral on social media sites since last week in the hope that the person could lead them to the exact group that was behind the abduction. He said the cybercrime group was also examining the video in detail in search for clues. In the video, the blindfolded captives––Seaman 2nd class Gringo Villaruz of Baluarte, Tagoloan in Misamis Oriental, Seaman 1st class Rod Alain Pagaling of Zone 10, Carmen, this city, and barangay chairman Robert Bulagao of Aliguay in Dapitan––begged the government for help as their captors threatened to behead them. The abductors have demanded a P10-million ransom for the release of the three captives. -nitz arancon
