TO build an agriculture and food innovation hub in Misamis Oriental, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of state-run University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines' (USTP) Agropolis Techno Park – Turismo AgriKultura Initiative in Claveria town was signed late last week.

The establishment of a technology park in Misamis Oriental is in the works by USTP-Clveria to bolster food innovation and food security.

The MOU aimed for the establishment of an innovation-economy-ecology system, said in a press statement Tuesday.

The signing on December 4, was led by  USTP – Claveria with government agencies, local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations.

"This is to pump agricultural-based knowledge, information, economic-state, science and technology innovation and development in the province," the report said.

As one of the partners of the initiative, Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10) envisioned for a food secure and resilient Philippines with booming farmers and fisherfolk. 

DA-RFO 10 regional technical director for operations Carlota S. Madriaga assured the group that DA will continuously support agri-fishery programs and projects for the province of Misamis Oriental. 

"The DA will continue implementing its initiatives, programs and projects to increase agricultural productivity and profitability of farmers and fisherfolk," said Madriaga.

Adding that taking into account sustainable, competitive and resilient technologies and practices, according to her.

Citing the holistic approach of the Agropolis development plan will help the farmers and fisherfolk in Misamis Oriental with the combined efforts of LGUs, national government agencies and the academe in achieving agri-tourism development. (Angie T. Cabig)
