NORTHERN Mindanao agriculture department (DA-RFO-10) handed over 90 bags of ‘open pollinated variety’ white corn seeds worth P135,000.00 to the Army's 88th Infantry Battalion, a press statement said Saturday.
It said, the assistance was part of DA’s Plant, Plant, Plant Program, also known as the Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (ALPAS) Laban sa COVID-19.
“It’s part of the agency’s initiative in ensuring and scaling up food availability and affordability for all in these trying times,” said DA-RFO 10 regional executive director Carlene Collado.
Adding, to sustain food production among soldiers amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat.
Collado said the assistance received will also boost corn production, as it can be planted to 90 hectares, in the municipality of Quezon, Bukidnon.
Earlier, Army’s 4th Infantry Division public affairs chief Major Rodulfo Cordero said the division was committed as a partner for peace and nation building during this health crisis.
The Philippine Army supports the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10)’s promotion and adoption of urban agriculture, according to Cordero.
Meanwhile, 88IB civil-military officer Captain Norven Jay A. Garcia said the assistance will support the development of the agricultural sector and will help reduce poverty in response to the country's peace agenda.
