GINGOOG City — More than 100 Department of Education (DepEd) personnel are moving into a new ₱76-million office in Sitio Civoleg, Barangay Lunotan, marking the first government facility to open within the city's proposed 76-hectare government hub.

The two-storey building will house personnel from the Office of the Schools Division Superintendent, Curriculum Implementation Division, and School Governance and Operations Division.

The new DepEd–Gingoog City Division Office was blessed and turned over earlier this month in a ceremony attended by city officials, education personnel, and other guests.

Schools Division Superintendent Edgardo V. Abanil said the DepEd Central Office funded the building, while the city government provided the land under Mayor Erick G. Cañosa.

“This new building is a gift from the DepEd Central Office and will become the new hub of governance for basic education in Gingoog City,” Abanil said.

The city government allocated about 3.7 hectares within the proposed government hub for the division office. Construction formally began on May 10, 2024.

Abanil said the opening was also significant because it coincided with the 50th founding anniversary of the DepEd–Gingoog City Division.

In a Facebook post, Cañosa welcomed the turnover, saying the new facility would help improve public service and provide DepEd personnel with a better working environment.

The division office is the first government facility established within the proposed hub, where other government agencies are expected to build their offices.

Its opening marks the start of the site's development as a center for government services in Gingoog City.
