By SHIELA MAE BUTLIG Correspondent IT’S going to be a rematch between Mayor Oscar Moreno and ex-mayor Vicente Emano in next year’s elections with Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez emerging as a dark horse. Councilor Alexander Dacer yesterday confirmed that former mayor Emano would run for mayor in a bid to reclaim city hall which the dominant Padayon Pilipino lost to the now administration Liberal Party in 2013 after the latter’s 15-year rule. Dacer said the Padayon Pilipino was also looking into the possibility of a three-cornered fight for the city’s top post with Rodriguez’s name surfacing as a possible mayoral candidate. Rodriguez is serving his third and last office term as representative of the city’s 2nd District. A run by him for the mayoral post would likely divide the anti-Padayon Pilipino votes that Moreno bagged, and boost Emano’s winning chances next year. Emano lost by over 17,000 votes to Moreno in 2013. Dacer said a Rodriguez run for the mayoral post would mean that Moreno has really lost the trust and confidence of many of those who supported him in 2013. “See? Even his (Moreno’s) political allies are leaving him,” Dacer said. The Rodriguezes played a crucial role in the outcome of the 2013 elections. When the congressman openly declared his support for Moreno’s mayoral bid, many of his supporters followed. Dacer, a former barangay chairman of Puntod who has been one of Emano’s political allies since the 1990s, said Emano has been preparing for a comeback, strengthening his ties with Vice President Jejomar Binay, businessmen and religious groups. Dacer’s pronouncements came after Moreno announced that he would seek a second office term next year. “We are looking at all the possible angles to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2013 when we were cheated,” Dacer said. He said he could not say who Emano’s running mate would be. He said the Padayon Pilipino’s candidate for vice mayor would be a decision only Emano can make.
