CATALINO Chan III, the former director of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Region 10, died yesterday afternoon. He was 61. Chan, who was transferred to Cebu where he served as DOT director  for Region 8, passed away at around 2  pm at the Perpetual Succour Hospital  in Cebu City. He reportedly suffered a stroke. Chan had served as Camiguin’s tourism officer before he was named DOT director for northern Mindanao where he served for 11 long years until he was replaced by May Salvaña last year. Chan had moved to Cebu in December 2016. Salvaña said Chan’s remains would be brought back by his family to this city on Sunday, and then to Mambajao town in Camiguin  where he would be laid to rest. Salvaña said Chan was supposed to retire this  November. She said her predecessor’s retirement application was already approved. (nitz arancon)
