A habal-habal driver was arrested after trying to sneak illegal drugs inside a jail in Iligan City at 3 pm, yesterday.
Jail Officer 1 Angela Quilab of the Iligan City Jail, identified the suspect as Jeben Labasano, 30, residing at Zone 6B, Barangay Del Carmen of the said city.
Found from the possession of the suspect were 49 sachets of suspected shabu with an estimated value of P24,500 and weighing 2.5 grams.
The incident occurred while the said facility was having an activity dubbed as ‘Paabot sa Biyaya’ program sponsored by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
In a police report, it was learned that the suspect mixed the said illegal drugs into the cooked rice with viands supposedly given to one of the detainees in the facility.
Quilab said that upon reaching the entrance she requested the suspect to open the said food container as part of the routine search and there she found the said illegal drugs.
Labasano was then turned over to the police assigned at police station 4 where he is currently under custody.
