A 47-year-old farmer was found dead after he drowned in a river at Barangay Baikingon, Cagayan de Oro City, Wednesday afternoon.
Police Maj. Jerson Estanilla, Bulua police station commander, identified the fatality as Angelito Paduga, married, and a resident of Zone 2 of the said barangay.
The body was found floating at about 5:30 pm by residents living in the area at Zone 4 of the same place.
In an initial investigation conducted by elements assigned at the said police office to Rustom Paduga, the victim’s son, he narrated that on Monday afternoon his father arrived at their residence bringing with him a bottle of intoxicating liquor.
“Pag abot sa mga alas tres akong papa miadto sa suba. Kauban akong usa ka igsoon amo siyang gisundan. Nakita namo siya nga gitabok sa maong suba. Amo siyang gitawaga pero murag wala siya kadungog,” Rustom said.
He said a strong current carried his father away until he disappeared.
He said the whole family had been searching for the victim but to no avail until he was found two days later floating in the middle of Bungkalalan River at Zone 4. His body was already in a state of advanced decomposition.
Police said the cadaver was brought to a funeral parlor in Bulua.
The family was advised to subject the body to an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
