AFTER the holiday season, Cagayan de Oro City Hall’s departments may undergo a revamp starting as early as January, Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy confirmed today.

“I’ve been receiving many reports about complaints from our constituents who said they weren’t attended to, that they were shouted at and passed around. This saddens and discourages me because it goes against my administration’s efforts to bring government closer to the people,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan during his Friday radio program ‘Ang Inyong Alagad: Mayor Klarex Uy.’

Mayor Uy’s disclosure echoed a previous message he gave to City Hall’s bureaucracy during a Dec. 5 flag-raising program.

In his Dec. 5 message, Uy reminded City Hall’s department managers and their staff not to procrastinate or delay their services to the public even during the holiday season. As much as possible, Mayor Uy said public concerns should be addressed in three days.

“Our constituents value their time (and their convenience) and you don’t know if they have other problems to attend to. That’s why I’m asking you if you can just provide them what they need in three days,” Mayor Uy told the City Hall bureaucracy in Visayan. Uy also confirmed that he let go of two employees following complaints against them by the public.

And in his radio program, Mayor Uy said City Hall department managers and their personnel should take the initiative to help the public and not make them wait to be served.

“They should motivate themselves to serve the public better especially those who need assistance the most. But then I saw some non-performing department managers, assistant department managers and division chiefs,” Uy said.

The mayor said these non-performing officials will be replaced by those more committed and capable to serve the people of Cagayan de Oro City better.

“They may even be reassigned someplace else where they can be effective,” Uy said adding “I attend to every one in my office even if it’s late in the evening (and they should extend the same effort).” (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
