HEALTH, education, agricultural productivity, housing, and infrastructure were among the priorities listed by Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy in his State of the City Address (Soca) and annual Mayor’s Report.
“These priorities which I listed in my address and report I elaborated on them later. Health and education are my priorities. While a (fully equipped) hospital is good, if it’s filled because more constituents are constantly sick (that’s a problem). A hospital with fewer patients is better because (that means the people are healthier),” Mayor Uy said in his Friday online program.
Uy said these priority concerns are incorporated in his RISE development agenda whose overarching goal is to make City Hall accessible and closer to the people.
“Again, if more people visit City Hall and the barangays, that means they are (confident and believe) that their concerns will be met because they see and talk to the local officials themselves,” Uy said.

In his address, Uy mentioned building more ‘super health centers’ in the barangays that can offer more medical services that are usually available only in hospitals such as dialysis treatments.
The mayor disclosed during his monthly message at City Hall’s flag-raising program that Barangay Carmen is looking to train their health volunteers to administer dialysis services to their constituents.
Should this prove effective in Barangay Carmen, Mayor Uy mentioned that he may consider expanding these services to other barangays.
In education, Uy said establishing the City College in Barangay Dansolihon would draw more students from the hinterland barangays, who could be better trained in modern agricultural technologies.
“For now the convention center is managed by the (Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority) and last I heard, they are considering the concessionaire that managed the Iloilo Convention Center to (oversee the facility),” Uy said.
Uy said due to its modern facilities, it requires those with experience and capability to run the center efficiently. The center was a project of the late Senate President Aquilino Pimentel Jr., also a former mayor of Cagayan de Oro City. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
