AMBULANT vendors who were relocated at their new site near Cogon market and yet choose to defy City Hall and create trouble there will be evicted from their allocated areas, Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy said.

“I don’t want trouble, I only want peace for everyone selling (at the relocation site) but why bother creating trouble if this would only hassle those vendors who wish only to continue their livelihood, the public, and the government? If some of these vendors wish to create trouble, I have no choice but to enforce the law,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan last Friday.

Mayor Uy said this during his Friday radio program ‘Ang Inyong Alagad: Mayor Klarex Uy’ a day after City Hall implemented the first of a two-day transfer of ambulant vendors from JR Borja, Capt. Vicente Roa streets and JR Borja Extension to their new site which is divided into sections.

There was minimal resistance by some vendors who eventually moved to their designated spaces inside the relocation site.

Among the areas reserved for the ambulant vendors who will sell near the Cogon market site are Guillermo, Daumar, and Ramonal Streets and portions of Yacapin and Osmeña streets.

The first batch that transferred to the new site were fruits and street food vendors while the second batch of ambulant vendors scheduled to move out last Friday are dry goods including used clothing (ukay-ukay) vendors.

“I repeatedly asked the ambulant vendors for their understanding and cooperation and explained to them why we need to transfer them but it cannot be avoided that there are those who will insist on their ways and refuse to move out. My fellow workers in City Hall also asked them that their transfer is a win-win solution for them and for the public, that they should think of others and not only themselves,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.

Mayor Uy said he doesn’t want to be forced to take drastic action to enforce the guidelines set for over 1,600 ambulant vendors relocated at their new site.

“There are those who only want to earn a livelihood and are willing to cooperate with the city,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.

Their relocation is also in preparation for their daily night market in the said areas. (Stephen Capillas of the City Information Office)
