NOW that Cagayan de Oro City has a new garbage hauler, Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy called on the contractor to ensure efficiency in their services while asking anew the public for patience as they resolve the garbage collection problem.
“It hasn’t been one month yet but based on my inspections around the city, the garbage on the streets is slowly being collected. It’s true that while the contractor has their trucks as required by City Hall yet they still need drivers so they’re hiring both drivers and collectors (to augment their operations),” Mayor Uy said in Visayan during his Friday radio program.
Mayor Uy referred to Cebu-based contractor Jomara Konstruct Corp. which the City Local Environment and Resources Office (Clenro) confirmed had started its operations on March 24.

“Once they augment their personnel it’s likely that they will reduce the garbage volume in the city,” Uy said in Visayan. He added that has yet to communicate with the contractor after it won the contract.
Mayor Uy also said he wants the contractor to ensure the maintenance of their trucks.
“The contractor should make sure that their trucks are not only fully operational but clean. They should regularly wash their vehicles (and make them look presentable),” he said in Visayan. Mayor Uy also asked Kagay-anons for patience, saying their garbage will be collected.
“I’m asking city residents for patience and to wait for results. There will be improvements in the garbage collection so let’s reserve our judgment for now,” Mayor Uy said.
Uy, likewise, called on Jomara Konstruct Corp. to enforce discipline on their personnel to avoid compromising their services to the public.
“I will also remind the contractor to prohibit their collector from soliciting money from city residents. In my tenure as former barangay captain of Carmen until now I prohibit the solicitation of money from city residents who pay our taxes,” Mayor Uy said.
Jomara Konstruct Corp. won the garbage hauling contract from City Hall nearly two months after the city terminated its contract with IPM Waste-CDO. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
