STARTING next week, the Uy administration will hold its ‘People’s Day’ at the city’s quadrangle, aiming to double down on its efforts to bring government closer to its constituents.

“Starting on Jan. 11 next week, I will hold office at the City Hall quadrangle (during People’s Day on Wednesday and Thursday) together with our department managers. That way, whatever our people need, I can directly refer them to our department managers so we can resolve their concerns within three to five days at the most,” Mayor Uy told the City Hall bureaucracy in Visayan.

On assuming office last year, Mayor Uy launched his ‘People’s Day’ program in mid-August, meeting with city residents — most of whom were indigents — at his office on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The mayor also launched the ‘Klarex Nga Serbisyo Sa Baryo’ outreach program in the city’s remote and upland barangays during the same month.

Uy explained this new setup saying that he’s willing to adjust to whatever discomfort is experienced with the people waiting on him and the department managers to ask for their assistance.

“Whatever discomfort the people experienced be it the heat or the cold, I will (through our new setup) show to them that I’m one with them in their (hardship),” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.

Before Mayor Uy’s monthly message, his chief of staff Sheila Lumbatan spoke on how the onset of the new year marks a fresh clean start’ and resolve for everyone in City Hall and every Kagay-anon to take action in meeting whatever challenges lie ahead.

“The past two years have challenged our souls, our way of life, and our spirits. No one was spared from the Covid-19 pandemic,” she said.

The shutdown of businesses and the resulting increase in unemployment represented the core of the seven challenges Lumbatan enumerated as confronting the Klarex administration in 2023 and beyond.

These include reducing the number of those who lost income and providing more employment, increasing the income of employees and business owners, and ensuring that people can put food on their tables, she said.

“We also need to ensure the health of our people, provide education to our children, ensure that everyone is actively involved in the development of their communities and that they have a bright and safe future for themselves,” Lumbatan said in Visayan.

She said this will be made possible by a City Hall bureaucracy that is “more sincere, empathetic, proactive, innovative and more responsive” to the needs of the people.

Mayor Uy also confirmed the resumption of the ‘Klarex Nga Serbisyo Sa Baryo’ starting on Jan. 12 or Thursday next week and every once a week until City Hall serviced every one of the city’s 80 barangays.

In last month’s flag-raising, City Administrator Roy Hilario Raagas also said City Hall departments are mandated to clean up after themselves to avoid inconveniencing their host barangays. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
