THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the increase in minimum jeepney fare in northern Mindanao from P7.50 to P8 effective yesterday.
Alan Aminoden Guro, LTFRB regional director, said the mimimum P8-fare covers the first four kilometers, and the fare increases by P1.40 for every succeeding kilometer.
Guro said senior citizens, the handicap, students are entitled to discounts. They are to pay a P6.50-minimum fare each for the first four kilometers and P1.10 for every succeeding kilometer.
The jeepney fare increase in Region 10 is based on the approval of the 2018 petition of the National Confederation of Transport Unions (NCTU), Transport Federation of Cagayan de Oro (Trafeco), and the Iligan-based Coalition of Lanao Utility Transport for Change (Clutch) by the LTFRB board chaired by Martin Delgra III. Guro said it was approved last week.
Guro, however, said only jeepneys whose owners secured the updated fare matrices can impose the increases.
Joel Gabatan, NCTU vice president for northern Mindanao, welcomed the fare increase.
“Labing minos, madugangan ang kita sa mga drivers sa P200 ang adlaw,” Gabatan said.
