ILIGAN City--Acting mayor Ruderic Marzo yesterday said he would fill the vacuum caused by Rep. Vicente Belomonte Jr.’s withdrawal from the mayoral race.
Belmonte went to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here and withdrew his candidacy for mayor on Monday.
Marzo said he was prepared to become Belmonte’s substitute as soon as he received the green light of the administration Liberal Party.
Marzo said he would also withdraw his candidacy for congressman so he could become Belmonte’s substitute. He earlier filed his certificate of candidacy for congressman as an independent.
Belmonte said he decided to withdraw from the mayoral race due to security reasons, and to preserve unity in the LP in Iligan.
