GROUP of Subanen farmers in Don Victoriano, Misamis Occidental has received agri livelihood assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA)-10’s project to boost farm production.
DA-10 Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga said the Subanen tribe of Don Victoriano town is engaged in strawberry farm and high-value crops.
Madriaga through DA’s Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) and High-Value Crops Development Program, turned over the greenhouse garden nets, plastic mulch, plastic seedling trays, polyethylene bags, hand tractor, shovel, and organic fertilizer, among others.
Don Victoriano is being envisioned as the strawberry supplier of Northern Mindanao with the support of their local chief executive, Mayor Bertoldo J. Murallon, Jr.
SAAD is a locally-funded program of DA, which aims to help alleviate poverty among the marginalized sectors of agriculture and fishery of the 30 priority provinces identified by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). (DA-10/PIA-10/Misamis Occidental)
