MISAMIS Oriental is set to receive its Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award on Dec. 9 in Manila, a recognition that highlights its compliance with stringent governance standards.
Provincial Administrator John Venice Ladaga, speaking after the weekly flag-raising ceremony at the Provincial Capitol, revealed that next year’s SGLG criteria would place greater emphasis on fiscal administration, including a high disbursement rate of allocated budgets.
“Fiscal administration, social service indicators, and the Commission on Audit report are key components of the criteria,” Ladaga said.
“The disbursement rate is crucial – funds must be fully paid for their intended purposes.”
The SGLG, an initiative by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), is awarded to provinces, cities, and municipalities that excel in governance, financial stewardship, and service delivery.
Governor Peter Unabia’s administration aims to sustain the province’s SGLG status, despite the more challenging indicators for next year.
“The level of requirements is higher, but it aligns with our mandate to alleviate poverty and ensure transparent governance,” Ladaga said.
The award, to be presented in Manila, will feature DILG officials, senators, and local leaders.
Ladaga pointed out that sustaining the accolade would bolster the province’s programs and serve as a benchmark for development initiatives.
