LIVES were put at risk after motorcycle-riding suspects lobbed a grenade at the ancestral residence of the Rodriguez family in Barangay Nazareth, this city at 1:12 am, this morning.
“We condemn in the strongest terms this act of violence perpetrated by unknown men,” said Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez.
The incident came days before the Commission on Elections starts accepting certificates of candidacy for the 2022 National and Local elections.
In an emailed statement, Rodriguez said his family is safe and no one was harmed in the incident.
He said that the authorities are currently conducting the investigations and justice will be served against all those responsible for the crime.
The House Deputy Speaker Rodriguez and City Councilor Bebot Rodriguez will ensure that the services offered through their respective offices are unhampered even after the harrowing incident.
Over radio interview, Cagayan de Oro City Police chief Col. Aaron Mandia confirmed the incident.
“It’s a “demil” (demilitarized) grenade thrown at Cong. Rufus’ house,” said Mandia, adding that a “demil” grenade meant it will not detonate.
He said an investigation is already underway to determine the motive and the suspects behind the incident.
Mandia based on the initial investigation said witnesses saw two persons riding a motorcycle allegedly threw the grenade but did not explode.
He said the grenade was thrown in front of the Rodriguezes residence.
