IF you’re in need of a good cry after not having the chance to mourn the death of a loved one, no thanks to the determination to keep on moving forward no matter what, it’s time to watch a movie like “We Live in Time” where you’ll be crying like a cry baby.
Moving forward is an essential, otherwise you won’t be able to pay bills, the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the City Treasurer’s Office, all other government agencies, and so on and so forth, ad infinitum, ad nauseam.
Even “We Live in Time” is about moving forward amidst the chaos.
But when it comes to grief, mourning is an essential. The challenge is how to do that without going deep into depression. And if crying makes your blood pressure go crazy, you may have to take deep breaths, inhale, exhale, and not watch movies like “We Live in Time” which requires watching another movie right after, preferably something like “Red One,” to help your red teary eyes recover.
“Red One” is not about the red US states that voted for Donald Trump, making him president for the second time. It’s about the kidnapping of Santa Claus before Christmas Eve. Oops! Did I just reveal the only spoiler alert that you’re supposed to avoid for this movie?
Yes, Santa Claus is real and has a security detail in the movie, much like what a US president is and has. But since it’s a movie, he’s still not real, right?
In this age of Fakebook, er, Facebook, deepfakes, and fake friends, deciphering what is real is more difficult than learning about real food.
Remember when fake noses and fake boobs were the fakes that we couldn’t discuss with friends whom we suspected had theirs done? Now, such enhancements are no longer news—to each their own, kung saan ka masaya, suportahan ta ka, which has been my usual mantra, by the way.
Talk of fakes, Mark Green and Ralph Nader wrote the book, “Fake President: Decoding Trump’s Gaslighting, Corruption, and General Bullsh*t.” Since this was published in December 2019 when Trump was US president for the first time, let’s see if Green and Nader will again write a book about him as he prepares for his second time as a White House resident.
“Love is sweeter the second time around,” as the saying goes. And I gotta feeling a presidential term is sweeter the second time around, too—for Trump, that is. And for the Republicans, of course. But for the Democrats and their fans, it’s going to be four years of why-did-this-guy-win-again and what-have-we-done-to-deserve-this.
Be careful in commenting about Trump, though, when talking with some Pinoy Americans who voted for him. We’re not American citizens, so, better focus on Pinas’s 2025 election.
For a while there, I wasn’t even aware that the US presidential election would be this year. Somehow I forgot that 2024 is divisible by four—the US elects its president every four years. And when news about Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris began to sprout on social media, I ignored them because I had no idea they were running for president. Besides, had I known, my reaction would still be, Keber.
If Harris needs a good cry now after losing to Trump, she should watch a tearjerker movie to help her move forward, which is not the same as moving on, by the way.
