THE Army’s 4th Infantry Division yesterday welcomed its new commander, Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva, whose assignment here is seen to strengthen intelligence information gathering in this part of the country.
Villanueva, who hails from this city, replaced Maj. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal in a simple turnover ceremony. He was installed by Army commanding general Lt. Gen. Glorioso Miranda at around 10 am.
Villanueva, a member of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1985, has extensive experience in the intelligence community. He is a former chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces.
He said he accepted the position, noting that the 4th ID is operating in areas where communist rebels have made their presence felt.
He said he would continue the programs of former 4th ID chief Madrigal, particularly his efforts aimed at achieving peace and order in Mindanao.
“Kay mao man kana ang gusto sa atong gobyerno and the people. and peace is very illusive” he said.
Villanueva said he would work and help for solutions to the insurgency problem in the region
“Dili man ta gusto ug gira kay pareho ra man ta mga Pilipino,” Villanueva said.
