MEDINA, Misamis Oriental — A newborn girl found at a cemetery in Medina Proper on Oct. 17 is now under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 10 while authorities work on her registration and continue efforts to locate her mother.
The baby, named Aurora Hope Medina by the local social welfare office, was transferred to the Study Center for Children of the Regional Social Welfare and Development Center on the evening of Oct. 19, according to Glorilie S. Vosotros, head of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).
Vosotros said the DSWD is processing the documents and reports needed to register the child with the Medina Local Civil Registrar.
The name Aurora Hope Medina was chosen to symbolize a new beginning and hope for the child’s future. Her surname reflects the town where she was found, Vosotros said.
Authorities are continuing efforts to locate the child’s mother. Vosotros appealed to the mother to approach the MSWDO for assistance, saying the office was ready to help.
The municipal government also offered a reward to anyone who could identify the mother, Vosotros said.
The circumstances surrounding the newborn’s abandonment were not detailed in the information provided by the MSWDO. Authorities have yet to announce the outcome of their efforts to locate the mother.
For now, the child remains under DSWD care while the necessary documentation and child-protection procedures are being processed.
