THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is implementing a range of measures to address the challenges caused by the backlog of System Impact Studies (SIS) for power plant connections.
The SIS is an important evaluation that determines the ability of the power grid to accommodate a new generator and identifies necessary improvements.
Due to the high demand for power generation in the country, the number of SIS applications has increased significantly.
However, historically, only about 28% of completed SIS resulted in the establishment of actual power plants.
NGCP is committed to evaluating each application passed on by the Department of Energy and has taken steps to expedite the process and improve efficiency.
The initiatives include hiring additional manpower to expand the SIS team, adopting a clustering approach to streamline evaluation, and considering outsourcing certain aspects of the SIS process.
These measures aim to enhance overall efficiency and reduce waiting times for potential power plant developers.
NGCP’s actions align with its comprehensive plan to meet the country's growing energy requirements.
