CAGAYAN de Oro City — The Local Government Unit of Villanueva found no irregularities at Keim Hing Steel Corp. during a joint inspection as the municipality strengthens its monitoring of steel manufacturing facilities amid the national government’s crackdown on non-compliant plants.
The municipality’s Joint Inspection and Assessment Team (JIAT) conducted the inspection on Aug. 26 at the company’s facility in Sitio Kirahon, Barangay San Martin.
Acting Mayor and Vice Mayor Jeric Emano led the inspection, joined by Special Assistant to the Mayor Israel Permi, Municipal Administrator Engr. Roy Bordo and other members of the municipal inspection team.
The assessment covered the plant’s operations, regulatory compliance, safety measures and other concerns affecting the community.
The LGU reported that no irregularities were found during the inspection.
The inspection came amid heightened government scrutiny of steel manufacturing facilities following a recent inspection of a steel plant in Davao City, where authorities reported alleged violations involving substandard steel products and suspected radioactive materials.
Emano said Villanueva supports the national government’s efforts to ensure that steel manufacturers meet safety, quality and other regulatory standards.
He also noted the company’s contribution to the municipality through taxes, saying the LGU has a responsibility to ensure that major business establishments remain compliant.
“Dako kaayo’g ikaabag sa local government nga panudlanan,” Emano said, referring to the company’s contribution to local government revenues that help fund municipal development.
Despite the intensified monitoring of the steel industry, the Villanueva LGU emphasized that its inspection was focused on assessing the company’s compliance and that no similar irregularities were found at the Keim Hing facility.
The inspection was also witnessed by members of the media as part of the LGU’s transparency and accountability efforts.
Emano said the municipality will continue monitoring business establishments to ensure compliance with government regulations and help protect the safety and welfare of Villanueva residents.
