By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent NEW People’s Army rebels struck again and set afire a truck owned by a cooperative of Del Monte Philippines workers and agrarian reform beneficiaries in Bukidnon on Monday afternoon, a day after President Duterte warned that the NPA attacks would jeopardize the peace talks. PO3 Teddy Jones Saliot, a Bukidnon police investigator, confirmed that the rebels attacked in Sitio Enkalumab, Purok 5, Barangay Kapitan Bayong in Impasugong town at around 1 pm Monday, and burned the truck. The truck, bearing license plates KFT-723, was owned by the Del Monte Employees’ Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (DEARBC). Saliot said the truck, a Fuso Canter F-85, was set afire by about seven members of Sectoral Committee 89 of the NPA. He said witnesses said the rebels were armed with AK-47s. Saliot said the rebels “lectured” Del Monte employees before they burned the truck. The burning came hours after rebels shot and killed a man named Roger Delamansi in Sitio Dila,  Barangay Impalutao in Impasug-ong town. For what reason the man was killed remains unclear at presstime but police said it happened at around 6 am Monday. “After the killing, they then attacked the Del Monte compound in Sitio Enkalumad where they burned the truck,” Saliot said. Police and soldiers were immediately mobilized to launch pursuit operations against the rebels, said Saliot. The truck burning came a day after President Duterte visited wounded soldiers at Camp Evangelista here where he set conditions for the peace talks that resumed in The Netherlands on Monday. The NPA attack was also staged the same day the 4th round of the talks between the government and National Democratic Front negotiators resumed without ceasefire declarations by either side. Earlier that day, National Police Deputy Director Ramon Apolinario warned against the NPA threat in Bukidnon and southern parts of Mindanao, and told officers at Camp Alagar to be vigilant. Apolinario said authorities should not take chances because the NPA remains strong in Region 10 and neighboring areas. He urged the police in the region to be more vigilant. “Police stations should always be on alert,” said Apolinario, pointing out that despite the resumption of the peace negotiations in The Netherlands, there is suspension of military and police operations.
