WE can be the knights of the round table, the knights of the rectangle table, the knights of the square table, the knights of the oblong table, the important thing is there’s a table on which we can put the food we’re about to devour.
Welcome to the world of foodies whose photos are usually with that table loaded with food.
Try reviewing your Facebook posts or your phone’s photo album to see if you also have such photos. Yummy, eh? Can awaken food cravings.
I’ve been trying so hard to switch my cravings from carbs to meat as I blurt out this: plants are poison. Those listening to me wouldn’t know how to react but they always manage to have an awkward and slight laugh, and reluctantly say, Whaaat?
If I were a high-carb dieter, and someone is telling me that plants are poison while I’m eating pinakbet, surely I’d react the same way, too: Whaaat?
Because this is the exact opposite of what has been taught to us since birth. Remember when we were kids and we were forced to eat ampalaya because it’s good for our health? And once we reach a certain age, we’re told it reduces our glucose level.
Veggies, fruits, and whole grains have been believed to be what we need most for good health, and the old Food Pyramid relentlessly promoted that belief.
Much like the Egyptian pyramids, there’s a whole history behind that Pyramid. Once upon a time, there was a lucrative business owner whose business was carbs, and he paid doctors and scientists to spread the news that carbs are good for health. With “once upon a time” in there, this can be a fairy tale with a happy ending. And they lived happily ever after.
And the carnivore diet does just that. There’s this joie de vivre that no carbo-loading meal can replicate, so that you’re now listening to and reading bad news with a mental clarity that enables you to plan your next move. You don’t cry, you don’t mope, you don’t go grrrrr, you simply accept the fact that life is sht, and once sht hits the fan, you have to remove that sh*t and let that fan work.
Living in the moment, the power of now, the gift of mindfulness. Who knew that eating meat would result to that? Carnivores do share through their testimonies how meat has improved their focus. It’s easier to zoom in on what’s truly essential and let the non-essential fade away.
Focus is lost when you allow noise to surround you: When are you getting married. When are you going to have children. When will you have grandchildren. Your answer? Oh. After the planets have aligned.
There are decisions that can be made only when planets have aligned. Haha.
And the questions don’t stop there. What’s your job. What business are you in. Where do you live. Why do you live there. Why do you work there. Why are you friends with them. How did you meet.
If I were the one asking the questions, it’s understandable. I have a convenient excuse — I need info for this column. But outside of the world of columnizing, journalism, writing, research, auditing, government requirements, police investigation, court cases, bank requirements, job applications, visa applications, you are simply a gossiper. You have no right to be nosy. Just shut the f*ck up already.
