CAGAYAN de Oro City Councilor George Goking on Tuesday said that the deadline for the payment of Real Property Tax (RPT) and a business permit is moved to February 28, 2022.
Goking announced that because of the devastation of Typhoon Odette and still under the State of Calamity, Mayor Oscar Moreno and City Council had decided to give an extension to taxpayers.
“Businessmen will have more time to renew their business licenses without having to pay penalties and surcharges,” said Goking.
The council on January 17, has passed an ordinance approving the extension from January 20, 2022, to February 28, 2022, and this was signed by Moreno, according to Goking, chair of the Council’s committee on ways and means.
The ordinance, which was certified urgent by Mayor Moreno, is one of the measures adopted by the city government to help the business sector recover from the effects of the pandemic, said Goking.
“We will just announce the deadline for the 4th quarter RPT which is supposed to be due on January 20 and the business permit renewal on December 31, we have already extended it to February 28, 2022,” said Goking.
Taxpayers can begin to pay their taxes on January 3, 2022, for the RPTs, he said.
As for the renewal of a business permit, of which the deadline is also on January 20, 2022, Goking said they sought the permission of Mayor Moreno and the City Council to extend the deadline to February 28, 2022.
The renewal began early January 2022, said Goking, and an extension of the business permit renewal can only be done through a City Council resolution. (Ben Balce)
