A 69-year-old resident of Cagayan de Oro City is now in jail after attempting to smuggle suspected shabu inside the city’s jail facility Saturday afternoon.

Jail Officer 2 Roda Flaviano identified the suspect as Joel Absuelo, a resident of Barangay Indahag of the said city.

Flaviano said the incident occurred at about 1:40 pm at the gate of the male dormitory.

It was learned that the suspect was bringing a supposed ointment placed in an eco bag for a certain inmate Reynaldo Junayon.

But as a Standard Operating Procedure, the gate security team conducted a thorough search of everyone who would like to visit inside.

Here, one of the guards found an ointment cream in a bottle.

Nagduda mi kay dili man smooth ang sulod, busa among gisusi pag ayo ug namatikdan nga illegal drugs gyud ang sulod,” Flaviano said.

Seized from the suspect was one large heat-sealed containing suspected shabu weighing five grams with an estimated value of P34,000.

In an initial investigation, Absuelo denied he had knowledge of the said contraband.

He explained to authorities that he was just being requested by a neighbor to deliver the stuff for Junayon in exchange for P500 cash.

In its press release, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-10 is continuously strengthening security measures to avert unscrupulous individuals attempting to smuggle illegal drugs inside the jail.

It can be recalled that on February 1 and March 19 this year, jail guards assigned at Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail located at Corrales-Luna Sts., this city arrested individuals who attempted to slip illegal drugs inside the said jail facility.
