THE Cagayan de Oro City Council passed a resolution urging the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Northern Mindanao (DILG-10) and the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) to reassess their crime rate data, which officials believe may have cost the city the 2023 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award.
Majority floor leader Edgar Cabanlas disclosed the resolution on Sunday, stating discrepancies between the crime data submitted by DILG and Cocpo might have led to the city’s exclusion from the award.

“There is information suggesting that crimes from 2022 were included in the calculation, which should not have been part of the 2023 basis,” said Cabanlas during a local radio interview.
While exact figures were unavailable, he emphasized the need for accurate data review and expressed hope that the city could still qualify for the SGLG award.
The resolution passed without objections from the council, reflecting broad support for the review.
