REGIONAL department of Social Welfare and Development has provided a P2,000 cash aid to each member of the barangay Lupong Tagapamaya in the 2nd District of Cagayan de Oro.

The cash assistance worth P764,000 from the DSWD through the budget allocation of Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez was received on September 23-24, 2021.

The 382 Lupons members were from Barangays 1-40, Agusan, Balubal, Bugo, Camaman-an, Consolacion, Cugman, F.S. Catanico, Lapasan, Macabalan, Macasandig, Nazareth, Puerto, Puntod, and Tablon.

The beneficiaries also personally received a copy of the book “The Revised Katarungang Pambarangay” 2021 Edition authored by Rodriguez.

“This book is to aid them in performing their juridical mandate in the barangay,” said Rodriguez.

He said the donated books have a value of P353,350 in total or at P925 per copy.

The Lupon members are the frontliners in dispensing barangay justice so that disputes among family members, neighbors, and residents of the barangay may avail an amicable settlement to prevent the cases to go to court, according to Rodriguez.

“Once a dispute proceeds to the court, the enmity of the parties will deepen and will likewise entail expenses for lawyers, court fees, and litigation expenses,” said Rodriguez. (Ben Balce)
