CAGAYAN de Oro City Hall is finalizing the relocation of over 1,000 ambulant vendors in the Cogon market area which Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy wanted to be done by next week.
In last Tuesday afternoon’s meeting with the City Economic Enterprises Department (CEED), the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), and other department managers, Mayor Uy also ordered the creation of a technical working committee to draft guidelines for the ambulant vendors on the conduct of their livelihood.
“Starting last Nov. 9, the CEED together with the city police and the RTA conducted profiling of over 900 ambulant vendors and by Nov. 14, we profiled about 1,160 ambulant vendors (for relocation),” CEED manager Marfe Dacoco informed Mayor Uy during the meeting that was also attended by barangay officials and representatives of the City Finance Office.
A team headed by the City Engineering Office (CEO) will finalize details of the area where the ambulant vendors will be relocated as previously mentioned by Mayor Uy.
“The Cogon market area had not been well lighted (so I want that fixed),” Mayor Uy told CEO chief Engr. Jenito Asequia after Asequia mentioned that they will repair the busted streetlights at JR Borja and Capt. Vicente Roa streets.
Regulatory Compliance Board (RCB) chairman Atty. Jose Edgardo Uy, who was tasked to draft the guidelines along with the City Legal Office, pointed out that enough time should be given to brief the ambulant vendors on the guidelines prior to a ‘dry run’ that would enable them to identify and resolve any problems that may arise from their relocation.
A raffling system will be implemented for the allocation of spaces for the ambulant vendors.
Plans are also underway for vendors coming from nearby areas who will sell their wares during the upcoming holidays. A meeting is scheduled tomorrow to iron out the guidelines for vendors and delineate the areas where the ambulant vendors will be designated.
Mayor Uy previously mentioned that an area will be allocated for ambulant vendors that would allow them to sell their wares without inconveniencing the riding public.
Some of the regulations previously agreed on for implementation include prohibiting vendors allowed from selling in JR Borja, Capt. Vicente Roa and Yacapin streets to prevent traffic congestion.
Vendors will also sell from 6 pm to 5 am and be required to clean and collect their garbage using their own containers. Violators will be issued an ordinance violation receipt. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
