CAGAYAN de Oro City— Farmers and residents of Barangay Agunod now have better road access and improved nighttime visibility following the completion of a P10-million infrastructure project.

Funded under the FY 2024 Local Government Support Fund-Financial Assistance to Local Government Units (LGSF-FALGU), the project includes a newly paved farm-to-market road (FMR) and eight solar streetlights along the barangay's local thoroughfare.

The project was formally turned over to the barangay on Sept. 18.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Misamis Occidental said the improved road is expected to make it easier for farmers to transport agricultural products, while the solar streetlights provide better visibility for residents and commuters at night.

Municipal Mayor Gadwin E. Handumon said the project is an investment in farmers and the wider community.

“Ang atong proyekto dili lamang bahin sa pagtukod og dalan ug pagbutang og mga suga. Kini usa ka investment para sa atong mga mag-uuma ug sa tibuok komunidad. Pinaagi niini, atong mapalambo ang access, mapadali ang pagdala sa mga produkto, ug mapauswag ang kahimtang sa atong mga barangay,” Handumon said.

(Our project is not just about building roads and installing lights. This is an investment for our farmers and the entire community. Through this, we will enhance access, make the transport of goods easier, and improve the condition of our barangays.)

Punong Barangay Reynaldo Manliguez thanked the government for the project, saying it addresses transportation concerns among residents.

Resident Alfredo Magsayo said the improved road has made travel and the transport of farm products easier.

“Dako among pasalamat sa proyekto nga gihatag sa among barangay. Dako kini nga tabang sa among mag-uuma ug sa mga residente kay mas sayon na ang among pagbiyahe ug pagdala sa among mga produkto. Atong ampingan kini nga proyekto aron mapuslan pa sa umaabot,” Magsayo said.

(We are deeply grateful for the project given to our barangay. This is a huge help to our farmers and residents because traveling and transporting our produce is now much easier. Let us take care of this project so it can continue to benefit us in the future.)

DILG Misamis Occidental Provincial Director Edward G. Bhagwani urged barangay officials and residents to help maintain the road and solar streetlights to ensure their continued use.
