A CLOUD cluster has formed over the Pacific Ocean, threatening to develop into a low-pressure area over Philippine territory this weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said yesterday. Pagasa weather forecaster Gener Quitlong said the state weather bureau is keeping watch of the new cloud cluster which has been forecast to intensify into a LPA before weekend. Quitlong said the LPA could further develop into a storm. He said the LPA could enter the Philippine area this Friday or Saturday. “We will continue to monitor this,” Quitlong said. Pagasa said it expects one or two tropical cyclones in the country before the end of the month. The next tropical cyclone would be named “Egay,” the fourth tropical cyclone to enter the country this year. Meanwhile, most parts of Mindanao continued to experience cloudy skies with rains yesterday due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ICTZ). The ICTZ now affecting Mindanao is the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia and considered a breeding ground for low-pressure areas or potential cyclones. -pna
