IN their ongoing mission to use technology for good, PLDT and its subsidiary, Smart Communications, are promoting sustainable farming and food security in Digos City.

Through their online series Kalye Mabunga and the PlantSmart program, they are educating communities and providing resources for home gardening.

Judee Chaves, a representative from PLDT and Smart, explained that creating tech-based solutions is part of the companies' core mission.

The two initiatives are among many they've launched to help communities across the nation.

Kalye Mabunga, supported by the Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Training Institute, is a ten-part online show teaching urban gardening basics and home food cultivation.

It's available on the Smart Communities Facebook page and the iADAPT online learning platform.

Complementing this educational content, PLDT and Smart have also donated over a hundred PlantSmart kits to the San Agustin and San Roque neighborhoods in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

These kits, containing vegetable seeds, soil, and fertilizer, enable residents to apply what they've learned and create their own edible gardens.

Chona Villamor, Secretary of Barangay San Roque, expressed gratitude for the donations, noting that they will be used to support their community's food security program.

Romel Pantonial, a local councilor, added that such initiatives are vital in combating malnutrition and instilling an appreciation for farming.

Lovely Gepitulan, an officer from the City Agriculturist office, also highlighted the program's alignment with sustainability goals and its contribution to community development.

In addition to the community donations, PLDT and Smart provided planting kits to several local schools, continuing their commitment to support food security and sustainable farming in the country.
