A retrieval operation is still ongoing for the missing 17-year-old senior high school student who jumped off the Marcos Bridge in Cagayan de Oro City last night.
The suicide was identified as Ainsley Jan delos Reyes, a resident of Barangay Balulang but presently staying at Barangay Camaman-an of the said city.
He was a grade 11 high school student at Liceo de Cagayan University.
Many individuals were able to witness the said incident that happened at 7 pm at the said bridge located at Barangay Consolacion.
It was learned that before the incident delos Reyes was with other classmates walking at the said bridge whose direction was towards the junction of Barangays Kauswagan and Bulua.
“Pero layo-layo ra sa iya ang iyang (delos Reyes) mga kauban. Mao tong naka higayon gyud siya paghimo kung unsa ang naa sa iyang hunahuna,” Ana, the victim's classmate said.
Another witness, a certain Joel Torres, a sand and gravel quarrier in the area told reporters that he saw delos Reyes jumping from the bridge and as soon as the latter was already on the water he struggled as if he wanted to be rescued but later he vanished.
Torres said he and his other companions immediately made action to help the victim but he could not find him anymore.
A team of Urban Search And Rescue (USAR) of the city and Philippine Coastguard-10 (PCG-10) responded to the area for the search and retrieval of the body but until this writing they found nothing.
Arnel Agbalog, delos Reyes's uncle said, his nephew might be in a state of depression to family problems.
He said the victim's parents were separated. His mother is working abroad.
He lived with his sister in Balulang but the frequent quarreling between his sister and her husband prompted him to rent a room in Camaman-an alone.
His classmates also said that lately, they noticed delos Reyes was always not in his normal mood and became very quiet.
