CAGAYAN de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez has secured 2,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines from San Miguel Corporation (SMC) through its chairman and president Ramon Ang.
The House deputy speaker Rodriguez requested Ang to donate surplus vaccines to Cagayan de Oro to achieve herd immunity by inoculating 70% of the total population.
Rodriguez said the 2,000 doses are expected to arrive on or before September 30 for vaccination on September 30 and the 2nd dose on November 30 to complete the 2-dose requirement for 1,000 fully vaccinated individuals.
The Covid-19 vaccines allocated for Cagayan de Oro is part of the procurement of SMC to vaccinate all its employees and their immediate family members, according Rodriguez.
“I am very thankful to San Miguel Corporation headed by Chairman Ramon Ang. He did not hesitate to approve my request,” said Rodriguez adding that his contribution to Cagayan de Oro City to ramp up the vaccine supply.
Rodriguez has also requested other big corporations in the country to donate vaccines to CDO.
“I urge all Kagay-anons to get vaccinated. All vaccines granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) by the Philippine FDA are safe and effective,” said Rodriguez.
He also encourage all private sectors to donate their extra supply and deliver them to the LGUs like CDO.
“Our city needs to achieve herd immunity by the end of 2021 so that we can return to our normal lives and keep our economy moving,” Rodriguez added.
The donated vaccines will be turned-over to the City Health Office through the Department of Health-10, he said.
