By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent SAN Miguel Brewery  Inc. yesterday broke the ground for the construction of a P6-billion plant in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. The SMB investment was hailed by Misamis Oriental officials who said  it would generate employment and more revenues in the province. SMB president Robert Huang said the Tagoloan beer factory would be built within a 54-hectare property in Barangay Sta. Ana. The firm would spend some P6 billion for the plant that is projected to be constructed in 18 months. The Tagoloan plant would be SMB’s second beer factory in Mindanao after Davao, and the firm’s seventh in the country. Other SMB plants are located in Bulacan, Pampanga, Mandawe Cebu, Bacolod, and Laguna. Huang said the SMB investment would create thousands of jobs in Misamis Oriental. He said the firm would hire construction workers from Tagoloan town. Tagoloan Mayor  Heckert Emano said the SMB investment would significantly increase his town’s tax revenues. Provincial board member Gerardo Sabal said the capitol was “100 percent” supportive of the SMB project in Tagoloan. Sabal, who represented Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano who is in China, graced the groundbreaking rites along with Mayor Emano and Vice Gov. Jose Mari Pelaez, among others.
